About Us
Mountain View Middle School, located at 8001 Weedpatch Highway in Lamont, California, has a rich history intertwined with the development of the Lamont community. The origins of the school trace back to March 1894, when the Mountain View School District was established. At that time, May Stork, the district's first teacher, instructed a modest group of 17 students.
The surrounding area evolved into the town of Lamont in 1923, named after the Scottish clan of one of its early founders, Arthur J. McFadden. The district experienced significant growth during the late 1930s, particularly with an influx of migrants from the Dust Bowl era, leading to an increased demand for educational facilities. In 1960, reflecting the expanding community identity, the district was renamed the Lamont Elementary School District.
Mountain View Middle School serves as the sole middle school within the Lamont Elementary School District, accommodating approximately 613 students in grades 7 and 8. The school offers various programs, including a Gifted & Talented program, to cater to the diverse needs of its student body. The school's demographic is predominantly Hispanic, with 99% of students identifying as such, and a significant portion of the student population is eligible for free or reduced-price lunch programs.
Throughout its history, Mountain View Middle School has been an integral part of the Lamont community, evolving alongside the town to meet the educational needs of its residents.
